Roof Ventilation
Brisbane — Expert Advice

Not sure what your home needs? Mike will inspect your roof cavity, assess your existing ventilation, and tell you exactly what will make a difference — and what won't. Free on-site assessment, no sales pressure.

The Basics of Roof Ventilation for Brisbane Homes

Effective roof ventilation works on a simple principle: hot air rises. In a well-ventilated roof, cooler air enters through vents at the eaves, flows through the roof cavity, picks up heat and moisture, and exits through vents near the ridge. This continuous air movement prevents the roof space from becoming a heat trap.

In an unventilated roof — or one with only the minimum required vents — hot air stagnates. On a 35°C Brisbane summer day, a poorly ventilated roof cavity can reach 70°C or more. That heat radiates through your ceiling all night long, keeping your home warm even after the sun sets.

Types of Roof Ventilation

Whirlybirds (Turbine Vents)

The most cost-effective active ventilation. Wind-powered, no electricity required, long service life. From $180 installed. More about whirlybird installation.

Solar Powered Vents

Fan-driven ventilation powered by a built-in solar panel. Works even on still days. Higher upfront cost, maximum airflow. From $385 installed. More about solar vent installation.

Eave Vents (Intake Ventilation)

Passive vents at the eave line that allow cool outside air to enter the roof cavity. Essential for creating effective air flow when ridge vents (whirlybirds) are installed. Mike can advise if additional eave vents are needed during your assessment.

Ridge Vents (Passive)

A continuous vent running along the roof ridge. More common in new construction — older Brisbane homes typically rely on whirlybirds rather than ridge vents.
